Science

The Science department at Blackminster Middle School aims to provide students with a compelling learning
experience every lesson and encourages them to think scientifically.  Unique Science projects are used to cover
a range of Science content, which puts necessary subject knowledge in a context that students can understand
and relate to.  The projects provide an exciting story, which the learners revisit every lesson.
The different interactive storylines help students to relate the work that is covered to everyday life.

The projects also implement the ‘how Science works’ strand of the new Science Curriculum.

Have the projects worked?
Learners that have shown no interest in Science before are starting to show more of an interest.
Learners look forward to Science lessons and are keen to find out what happens next in the story.
The percentage of learners achieving their end of year target level has increased.

Science is taught in mixed ability teaching groups and areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics are
covered throughout the year.
