PSHEE

PSHEE is the planned provision for students’ personal and social development and their health and well-being.  It helps to give children and young people the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives.  It also helps them to understand how they are developing personally and socially and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

PSHEE has two main strands: personal wellbeing and economic wellbeing.  These make a major contribution to the five national outcomes of Every Child Matters (ECM), a key feature of the Children Act 2004:

Personal wellbeing covers such topics as personal identities, healthy lifestyles, relationships and diversity and fosters the essential skills of critical reflection, decision-making, managing risk, developing relationships and working with others.

Economic wellbeing and financial capability aims to help students to see the relevance of what they learn in school to their future lives and to enable them to make effective plans, decisions and transitions.  It covers the key concepts of career, capability, risk and economic understanding and helps to equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to make the most of changing opportunities in learning and work.
